reahity

(via)

I've been looking up "vaporwave" on tumblr lately. i like it, especially the art. it's a curious sensation to feel, that this very recent & short-lived sub-sub (or subsubsub-)culture already seems part of history & dead as ancient egypt; hence its allure. those purples, like the blue of chartres--lost to us. I've heard cyberpunk aesthetics described as "rain and neon," & this seems exactly right. well, vaporwave is like "rain and neon" if you've never actually seen them outside of rain & neon in anime. --i connect this with using words from stillborn conlangs, & the inherent power of "barbarous names" in magic. it's not an expression of feeling at all. it's art in the shadow of the dreamtime.

"If it seems like our imagining of the previous century doesn’t really begin until the Roaring Twenties, then that’s because, according to Smith, the Twenties 'was the first decade to legitimate a ten-year span of time as a historical category'."

learning names by heart
we never really wanted to know
the wasps at bay
for the time being, probably
now it's west nile stalks us
or a madness from out of the blue

& two fires join as one
