wicker lizard

Space chimps.

Sunshine after weeks & weeks of dim
returns, & after all that sodden rain
each creature from its own design of den
proceeds anew apace its share of the light to claim.

I wander, but my mind is full of harm
inflicted, or yet nascent & nebulous & vague;
fresh red against the dark upon maroon stains on the harg--
& i feel helpless--yet, as well, to blame. yet, obscurely, i'm to blame.

No one knows how much more crazed & grim
will these days turn, in sunlight or in gloom.
we try too little, gripe too much, let wish
run rampant, with our blindfold fears farouche:
one season, & this forest yields to flame.

            Rape-publicans unchecked;
our doddering routines ill-contradict
so much amassed greed, hatred,--& despair
that stands grins behind it all with claws phiz of calcspar.
